Skin Cells – Did You Know…

… That every day, the human body loses about one million skin cells — that amounts to 2 kilos every year. Skin accounts for about 15% of your body weight. The average adult has approximately 21 square feet of skin (roughly 2 square meters), which weighs 9 lbs (about 4 kilos) and contains more than 11 miles (about 18 km) of blood vessels. The average person has about 300 million skin cells. A single square inch (about 6.5 cm2) of skin has about 19 million cells and up to 300 sweat glands.

Also every inch of skin has an exact stretch-iness and strength for it’s location. As we all know the skin on our knuckles is very different to the skin on our belly or the back of our knees. Our skin has its own bacteria microbiome of over 1000 species.

Talking about how amazing our body is…

  1. Neat information. Thank you for sharing that. And after reading the first paragraph, I’ve decided that I’m actually 9 pounds lighter than I thought I was, “skin…weighs 9 lbs”. I’ll take it! Haha. Also, I love how every 28 days our skin renews itself, but it sure would be nice if it was a complete renewal. No more blemishes of any sort. Now that would be fabulous.
