  1. When I first saw this picture a few days ago, I looked it up… because this seems like it would be a great way to protest. Everything could find was from 2013. Four years ago. So, I honestly don’t know if they’re still doing this, whether it worked or not, or whether is was ineffective. I would think that if it were effective, there would have been more news stories about it. But since the only stories I could find are three or more years old, I dunno. It seems like an awesome idea, but…

  2. Very smart. By being silent and peaceful, they will not cheapen the seriousness of their message. Protesters here in the USA should take note.

      • I think the people that choose to be violent have their own agenda, which typically doesn’t coincide with goals of the protest.

      • Very true… but then… do you think that it needed MLK and Malcom X back then or would MLK have been enough? Wondering what your take it… been discussing this for a while now with all kind of people.

      • Without going into specific historical examples I personally believe that it comes down to “do unto others as you want done to you.”

You want your voice to heard, so do not silence dissenting opinions. You want your rights, so you cannot impinge upon another’s. You want the violence to end, so you cannot condone promoting or inciting violence. You cannot cry racism then act no differently towards others.

So going along this line of thought, I think that is why MLK historically has made a bigger impact. He demanded a lot but also held himself to the same (if not higher standard) which put him on the moral high ground.
