Yeah I didn’t like all the violent protest that broke out yesterday. This is much better.

They don’t make sense and only feed the ones their trying to fight…

When I first saw this picture a few days ago, I looked it up… because this seems like it would be a great way to protest. Everything could find was from 2013. Four years ago. So, I honestly don’t know if they’re still doing this, whether it worked or not, or whether is was ineffective. I would think that if it were effective, there would have been more news stories about it. But since the only stories I could find are three or more years old, I dunno. It seems like an awesome idea, but…

Silent, immobile protests don’t punch, scream. burn, explode or loot. Not exactly the visuals the main stream media is looking for. Self-immolation makes headlines, peaceful assembly for redress of grievances does not. Sad.

Wouldn’t it be nice though if people would protest like this instead of violently?

From what I understand, most of the marches today were very peaceful.

Yes, exactly! That was Gandhi’s way and it is the only way to make aware that something has to change but do it peacefully! I love that!

When I watched the news yesterday I couldn’t stop thinking about how wrong the violent approach, the violent way of demonstrating is. It defeats the point. It only feeds the ones you aim to fight. Nothing else.

We can only have peace when we are peaceful! We will always generate what we sow!

And that makes the new presidency so scary…

That is exactly the point! And that’s why actions like the one you shared are even more important!

I might have to explain why it makes me feel better as well: I hate violence. But I’m also all for speaking up. It makes me feel better to see that people manage to speak up in a non violent way.

Yes, exactly! Only because we are not willing to act in a violent way doesn’t mean we need to swallow everything!

This is the way to do it… violence results in silencing of voice! This silence speaks louder than any punch or scream.

Very smart. By being silent and peaceful, they will not cheapen the seriousness of their message. Protesters here in the USA should take note.

I wish they would be more peaceful. It just defeats the point…

I think the people that choose to be violent have their own agenda, which typically doesn’t coincide with goals of the protest.

Very true… but then… do you think that it needed MLK and Malcom X back then or would MLK have been enough? Wondering what your take it… been discussing this for a while now with all kind of people.

Without going into specific historical examples I personally believe that it comes down to “do unto others as you want done to you.”
You want your voice to heard, so do not silence dissenting opinions. You want your rights, so you cannot impinge upon another’s. You want the violence to end, so you cannot condone promoting or inciting violence. You cannot cry racism then act no differently towards others.
So going along this line of thought, I think that is why MLK historically has made a bigger impact. He demanded a lot but also held himself to the same (if not higher standard) which put him on the moral high ground.

Violence doens’t turn people to your side. It turns people against you.

Yes. And it also feeds the arguments those people use that you are against.
