52 Weeks Photo Challenge: Week 28 – Happy!

Managing to express feelings in pictures is hard. So I tried to come up with some of the pictures related to moments I felt happy. Happiness can be as simple as looking at a beautiful flower, having a candle burning, a beautiful sunset, traveling or a good cup of coffee…

52 Weeks Photo Challenge: Week 27 – Architecture

Coming from Europe I’m used to stunning architecture, old buildings and heaps of history involved. Australia is a fairly young country in regards to it’s history. And still some architecture reflects the old European style. I guess they needed a little bit of home over here. But there is one special building over here that has nothing to do with the history of the European settlers.

One of the most stunning buildings in my books in Australia, or even in the world, in my books is the Sydney Opera House (find some facts here). I can’t get enough of the building and each time I’m there I feel like it looks different. It’s the different light on the roof of the stunning creation. For sure a must see for visitors.

52 Weeks Photo Challenge: Week 26 – Stranger

So many strangers coming together to cheer for someone they all admire. Someone, who is also a stranger to most of us. A person we don’t know but think we know. Performing on a big stage, doing their very best to please all strangers in the crowd.

Then there are the “strangers” we encounter while out and about. The ones we try to figure out so much about it but still don’t know everything about 😉

52 Weeks Photo Challenge: Week 25 – Textures

What a fantastic challenge we are facing in showcasing “texture”! I often find that the things you feel, either in your heart, soul or just simply by touch are the hardest to showcase in pictures. Just because we all experience it slightly different. When I saw the task I closed my eyes for a moment and thought of the first things that came to my mind. And here we go:

I thought of the smooth texture of moss, the little umbrellas of the dandelion carrying the seeds, the softness of a rose pedal, the inside of a shell. I thought of the texture of sand, the warmth and the happy feeling it gives me to put my feet in. What I realized though is how different I experience the texture felt in my mind when thinking of warm sand compared to the cold one in winter… somehow “winter sand” almost feels harder in my mind… I thought about the muddy and slippery texture of a path through a forest after rain, the texture of frozen water on metal, the texture of snow. When it falls freshly or when the wind blows it around.

While I was looking up pictures to showcase my thoughts I found two that I wanted to put up as well as their textures surprised me when I experienced them for the very first time. It’s the texture of a snake’s skin. I thought it would be slimy but it’s actually so beautiful to touch. Same with Kelp. I thought it would feel more like a foul, slimy salad leave but was surprised about how rubbery it was.

This world is full of different textures. We just forget to focus on experience them. I’m thinking of how my keyboard feels right now while typing this and also the glass table. Things I’m usually not aware of. As a little challenge for this week: How about you head out there and focus on all the different textures you experience in one day? Tell me about it, list them, write a post. Just make yourself aware of it once again…

52 Weeks Photography Challenge: Week 24 – Light

Morning glory is when nature switches on its light, turning the sky in all kind of different shades of red, purple and blue to then wrap us in bright sunshine.

Watching as the natural light changes over the day and during my favorite time of the day, late afternoon, turn the sky colorful once again until the sun goes down and the lights in the buildings and on the streets come on…

52 Weeks Photo Challenge: Week 23 – Trees

I love trees. They are giving me this feeling of calm. Even if it’s windy and I watch them move in the wind, swing from one side to the other. They “tell a story”. A story of the years they spent growing. The years they spent producing and cleaning our air. The shelter they give us from the elements. They homes they provide for all sort of animals.

52 Weeks Photo Challenge: Week 22 – Nature

The above pictures sum up my kind of nature and I just realized once again, how diverse nature in our area is. From the most amazing forests with huge trees, to the fields with grazing kangaroos to the beaches. All the special birds and mammals that are unique to Australia and you get to see on a hike when you keep your eyes open…

52 Weeks Photo Challenge: Week 20 – Coffee

When I was younger and we still had the horses my morning on my days off usually looked like this: Getting up, feeding the horses. Then having a cup of tea and breakfast. Then cleaning out the stables and then having a coffee before riding out. Especially in the colder months of the year that cup of coffee tasted extra good. I also remember very clearly being a child and waking up to the smell of coffee my mom had already made. It was almost like an alarm for me and although then I did not drink coffee it made me hungry for breakfast and I just loved its smell. I don’t remember when I started drinking coffee but I became what I would call a coffee addict. When I was at work and it was really busy coffee kind of became my energizer. Eventually I realized that I had to slow down, that I had to cut back on the amount of coffee I drank.

52 Weeks Photo Challenge: Week 19 – View

Can you tell that I love this week’s challenge of The Girl That Dreams Awake‘s 52 Week Photo Challenge? Not only is my blog about having a view, a point of view, but there are so many different ways to enjoy a view.

From above, from down there, from within, through, over, on. But we can only enjoy a view if we look up.

I find that people rush, their views glued on a device in their hand. People don’t look around anymore. They don’t see people anymore, they don’t see places anymore, they don’t see the beauty anymore. It’s time to wake up. Time to look up again. Time to see people again, look them in their eyes, interact again. Time to look around, see the beauty that is out there, see the mountains, the ocean, the birds, the clouds. See the sunsets the rainstorms and the pictures in the clouds. Put your feet in the sand (or the snow).

Be again…
