Tell Me Something Good #127

Mondays are sneaking up on me recently and my Christmas countdown tells me that there are only 77 days left till then… That means that there are only 83 days left in this year… And here I am thinking 2018 has only just started.

But let’s not focus on the end of the year yet but rather on the beginning of a new week and let’s kick it off on a good note:

It’s easy:

• Mention something that you consider being good in the comments

• Or write a post about it on your blog (please don’t forget the pingback if you do so I don’t miss out and also share the link to it in the comments below). Something good that happened to you recently, or something good you will experience in a little while, or something good you know will happen soon. Something that makes you feel good.

• Share this post and invite your followers as well.

You know it by now! We are not moving any further without a little happy dance. It really doesn’t matter which style of dancing you like. Just do it. Just dance! Enjoy yourself 🙂

Do another round. Feel it loosen the tension. Do it to put a smile on your face. Do it to relax. Do it to get a break from whatever you are doing. Do it to get your mind off something that bothers you. Or do it to simply get your heart rate up a little.

“Today we decided to take the day off instead of school, work, you name it. We are just about to head out on one of our favorite hikes and spend some quality time together. While I love being at home, it’s good to get out sometimes and just get some perspectives and a day on the beach or hiking will provide it. I love how the kids enjoy going on hikes with us oldies. The talks we have when out and about are always great and simply being outside in the fresh air and sun is simply amazing. While both of them are really active devices are all too present while at home and it’s great to just leave them behind and head out.

Don’t get me wrong, we don’t suffer from a proper device curse where you are unable to talk to your kids or get them off the sofa. Recently I watched a show on TV about families really struggling with their kids’ addiction to games. While I believe that the issues go much deeper and you could get on top of it by ‘simply being a parent’, it was mind blowing to see how switched off those kids were. As if the world around them didn’t exist anymore. So when I watch my teenager and preteen climb over rocks, look for lizards, enjoying the views, smelling the air, chatting along while walking, I can’t help but feeling content and happy.”

Tell Me Something Good #126

Hello my lovely blogging friends. I know I’ve been missing in action all of last week. I just needed a total break from blogging, an unplugging from this part of my life in that sense. Not that I don’t appreciate you (you don’t know how much I do appreciate all of you), but I simply had to focus on some other parts of my life.

Today I’m back and I’d love to share something with you that is incredibly close to my heart. And I thought why not use the Tell Me Something Good posts to do so. So let’s kick off this week with something positive.

Come on, don’t go down without a proper “fight”! I challenge you: Dance-off time! Let’s do this!

And when you are done here is what I’d like to share with you today:

“For all my life I always thought that my dad’s life is worth a book. He had no ordinary life. It’s seriously an incredible story and it would be a shame to not tell it. But I simply wasn’t brave enough to start writing it. A couple of years ago I met with a guy who is sort of into mentoring authors but it never really led to anything. But I remember how we talked about our families and he mentioned how writing a book about his mom actually helped him to write books. I couldn’t relate really. He then said ‘you should do it. Who better to tell your dad’s story?’…

See, I thought my dad’s story is too big for me to write. Over the last couple of years though I met all kind of wonderful people from all walks of life and so many told me to write his story. But there was this voice in my head. It kept me from starting. There was the fear that I would not be good enough. Well… until now. Or better until last week. I started. And boy, did it feel good. So if I’m missing in action again here, please note that I’m not leaving all of you. I’m writing. I’m writing a story that is very important to me. And I want to focus on it.

You will see me here. I’m not leaving. And I will keep you posted because you should totally read his story when I’ve finished writing it…”

12 Years In The Making

SwAustralia

Not that Australia was showing its nicest face over the last couple of days. There was rain and hail and wind. Nevertheless there is one statement I can make: I love it here! I love Australia, its beaches, its rain forests, its mountains, its desserts and plains, the heat and cold, wind and sun. And I love the variety of people that made Australia their home.

Blast From The Past – For You, My Son

He is sitting next to me, reading his book. I’m joking. Asking him if he would read to me. He just looks at me with this “are you serious” kind of look. I answer him that I am and he just laughs and shakes his head. He keeps reading. And then he stops, looks at me and asks me if I’m serious. If I am he would be happy to read to me. And I see the love he has for me in his eyes. I smile at him and tell him that it’s okay. Just keep reading.

I can’t help myself watching him from the corner of my eyes. He has grown up so much. My little boy is a teenager. A teenager who doesn’t need his mom as much anymore as he used to and still does so much. A teenager who still happily cuddles, hugs and kisses his mom, even in public. A teenager who has just scored his first job and is doing great in it. A teenager who talks so much “rubbish” with his friends. A teenager with a deep voice and a good humor. A smart, polite young man. And still… He needs me. He needs his dad. Somewhere in there is still a little boy and most likely will always be.

While I think about all of this so many memories come up. So please forgive me that I share this Blast From The Past today. I just can’t help myself ;-)…

Share Your World – May 14th, 2018

Complete this sentence: This sandwich could really use some …
Seasoning, toasting, some avocado, some herbs and a bit of lime juice… Thanks for the effort but do you mind if I re-assemble it 😉

What is your least favorite candy?
We bought a jelly bean “game” recently who had good ones in it and then the vomit, dog food, nappies, boogers and other off flavored ones… needless to say that I was not fond of them (and that most of us felt sick after playing it…)

What sign are you? Do you believe in astrology?
Yes, I totally do. I believe that the zodiac is the tool set we are equipped with when we are born. What we make of it is then up to us and all the influences from the outside but we will always have the specific tool set. I do believe that the alignment of stars has an impact on us. Is it an excuse for bad behavior? No. But it definitely influences us.

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.
I appreciate being flexible and able to spend my time with my family and friends. I will not share the link to my recent Tell Me Something Good post as I was not very cheerful. It happens. It’s better today and I appreciate the laughter we shared today, the happy faces and watching my children learn…

Share Your World – 30th April, 2018

It’s been a gorgeous fall day once again today, a bit hazy in the morning but then beautiful and clear for the rest of the day. I took the dogs on a walk in our old neighborhood, the area we lived in right after we moved. It was so beautiful and almost a bit emotional in a way. Our son was so little back then and our daughter was born while we lived there. I went to one of the dog parks we used to go to a lot and there was a little memory sitting behind every corner of this park. So many little smiles on my face while I was doing my rounds.

The world doesn’t stop turning and time doesn’t slow down. In moments like those though, it seems like you’ve been taken right back to those little moments although it all is so very different.

Anyway… it’s Tuesday again and for me this means time for Cee’s amazing Share Your World Challenge. So let’s get to answering some questions, shall we…

#atozchallenge – K for Keeping Up

I’m trying hard to keep up with the #atozchallenge but traveling back from overseas, kicking off the soccer season, trying to unpack and clean up and eating bad sushi doesn’t make it easy!

I’m typing this from my bed, feeling like I’ve been run over by a truck after a not so great night. The nice thing is to see how much my family cares for me and how the kids just take over the chores I usually do in the morning.

They are keeping up with everything too and I’m having a huge proud mom moment here…
