Bottle

It was just a bottle of wine. Actually one each… It’s something I hear us say every now and then on a Sunday morning while hiding behind the sunglasses, watching our girls play soccer, standing in the cold. We both giggle and immediately feel sorry for not having had more discipline.

“You know that it’s only you that makes me drink so much?” As if I force her to empty her glass or to refill it… But I know kind of what she means. It is the combination of the two of us that is dangerous. When we catch up, we catch up for early dinners. The kids disappear, the guys get along well, conversation flows and so does the wine. Giggles, laughter, food and the wine. Continue reading

Tell Me Something Good #59

Image result for monday motivation quote

So let’s do this. Let’s kick off this week with a positive thought. By sharing something good, something that made you happy or you are looking forward to .

It’s easy:

  • Mention something that you consider being good in the comments
  • Or write a post about it on your blog (please don’t forget the pingback if you do so I don’t miss out and also share the link to it in the comments below). Something good that happened to you recently, or something good you will experience in a little while, or something good you know will happen soon. Something that makes you feel good.
  • Share this post and invite your followers as well.

Before I share my good thing how about we get a tiny little bit excited? Common, I know you can do better 🙂 Be excited! About you and what you do! Because you are exciting! Just one more round! Yes! Can you feel the excitement? Yes? Good! Be excited! The week will have so much good for you in store!

Now just keep the excitement going! No need to stop here.

And here is what I’d like to share with you today:

“I have basically not seen my children all weekend. Weird to mention this here? Not really. I have not seen them because they have spend all of their free time with their friends. And they had a blast. I love their friends. Because they bring out the best in my children and they all act age appropriate. They can be who they are. Nothing beats having two happy children at the end of the day, telling you about the amazing time they had with their friends.”

You know what? No action needed. Just a happy grin will do. That little smile that shows how happy you are, that makes your face light up. It’s sometimes all it needs. And I actually think you can “feel” it even when you are not seeing people but you only talk to them. So just do it. Just allow this smile to brighten up your day.

Just enjoy the moment. Don’t push it away to quick. Enjoy as long as it lasts and you will realize how much energy it will give you.

And when you are ready, here is what I’d like to share with you today:

“While I type this everyone is pretty tired, hanging out at their favorite spot in the house, either playing or watching TV. We had a couple of great days. A great catch up with dear friends of ours mid last week kind of kicked off the Easter weekend. We went to our favorite Wildlife Park with a friend of the kids had friends over the same day, then had her parents over for dinner and on Saturday we went on a hike with friends of ours. It was a long weekend spent with the right people. So often I am amazed how much people can give you without actually giving much. Just by being there and everyone having a great time. It was truly a fantastic Easter :-)”

Labeling

“It makes me wonder if I’ve ever done that to someone – not been the friend they needed.” This was part of a comment Eric left on my 100% Blast Of The Past post the other day. For the ones that have not read the post, it’s about what we feel is giving 100% and the fact that someone’s 100% might not seem like 100% to us because we expect more but for them it is 100%, it’s as much as they can do or give. It is also a post about friendship.

I often wondered in that particular friendship if my friend sees me as as important of a friend as I saw her. Back then I often thought it was not the case. I often thought I invest more of my emotion, of myself in this friendship. Today I know that it’s not the case. I know I was as important to her as she was to me. Her 100% just looked different to mine. Or better: They were different than what I expected from her.

And that’s what I answered Eric. It was actually not as if SHE was not the friend I needed. She was. I just did not receive it that way and simply labeled it as being less than 100% involvement. It was about my expectation. I expected it to be different. I expected her to show it in a different way. In a way I wanted it to be. I had my picture in my head of what it was supposed to be like. Before I tell you something good that has happened in my life let’s move a little bit. Move and loosen up. You will feel so much better, I promise. Just move around a little bit. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in… Move those bones…

And when you’re done, here is what I’d like to share with you:

“I was so super lazy this weekend. Yep, really lazy! I binge watched a TV Show yesterday while the kids had their play dates. And it felt so good. Sometimes we need days like this too, right? I also had a catch up with a friend of mine who is actually rounding up a group of her friend in order to support me when I launch my business early next year. How amazing is that? Not only is she supporting me directly but she is actually making sure she gets some of her close friends together to get them to support me too. Those kind of friends are the ones to be thankful for…”

I hope you will get up with a positive thought on your Monday morning, making you ready to tackle the new week with all its little challenges. Remember: You don’t need permission to be happy! Just be happy. There is so much good out there, so focus on it! Let’s do it! Let’s kick off the week on a positive note!

It’s easy:

  • Mention something that you consider being good in the comments
  • Or write a post about it on your blog (please don’t forget the pingback if you do so I don’t miss out and also share the link to it in the comments below). Before I’m going to share what I’m looking forward to in this week or what made me happy last week I think we should shimmy a little big. Right? So let’s get ready! Take a breath, get in position, another breath and SHIMMY, SHIMMY, SHIMMY your heart out…

Let’s do it again! Let’s do another round of shimmy 🙂 It’s fun, don’t you think. And doesn’t it make you feel good or even giggle? I’m giggling (and my son, who just wanted to join me, looked at me shook his head and walked right out of the room again…) and I’m not done yet! Let’s do another round!

And when you are done, here is what I’d like to share with you today:

“I’m so looking forward to tonight’s super moon. I hope we will have the chance to see it. I love full moons and a special one like this always excites me. I’m also looking forward to the couple of days that are suppose to be really warm and sunny this week. I hope that the weather forecast is right. This last couple of weeks have been rather unusual wet and cold. It’s spring and I really crave some nice warm spring days. Seems like we will be treated to some over this new week. As always I’m so happy about the friendships we have in our lives. A special mention today goes to my son’s best friend who is just an amazing boy. I’m glad he is part of our family in this sense. It’s good to know that your kids have such great quality of friends.”

A quick note to those of you who follow Tell Me Something Good on a regular base. I have decided to post it at a later time of the day here, so it’s closer to most of your start of the week. I will see how it goes and might move it back to it’s original time if I find it’s the better option.

Find Special Things On The Beach Day

Today is Find Special Things On The Beach Day. At least for me. I came across Jennifer Nichole Wells Today Is… posts and loved the idea. Why not making every day a “holiday”.

If you’d like to participate as well just jump in, link back to Jennifer’s page and tag your post #todayis.

As I said, today is Find Special Things On The Beach Day in my home. After the rain over the last couple of days it was a beautiful little surprise to see the sun out. So I took one of the dogs and the boys (my son and his best friend) and took them all for a walk along the beach. We found many special things. Things like stars in the sea, a special lion (or was it a hairy dog?), a mini rain forest on a rock, an interesting mix of colors and natures jewels. But I also discovered something else.

It’s fun to experiencing a walk with two friends who are so close for years now and spent many hours discovering the beach and the tide pools together. They took me back to the beginning of their friendship, days when they were so much younger. Little boys, you know. Today I watched two big boys and saw two little boys. Too similar were their reactions, the giggling and the team work from what it was years back. In a way today was not just about finding special things, but also about a lasting and special friendship.

Today is...

Blast From The Past – Farewell

As you all know today is Father’s Day on your side of the world. Today would also have been my Dad’s birthday. A day he will never celebrate again. I feel emotional.

It also seems to be the time of the year people move. In general a time to let go I guess. Maybe time to become aware of the fact that sometimes we have to accept the fact that we need to let go, that we have to say our goodbyes. Some are final goodbyes with no chances of ever get together again. Some are a bit less drastic but still tough.

Just about a year ago we had to say goodbye to lovely friends of ours who moved back to their home country. Today we will have to do the same to people who were among the first friends we’ve met here in Australia, hence the Blast From The Past.

It feels weird.

On one side we can tell how much they look forward to going back to the country their originally from, which makes us happy too. On the other side it also hurts seeing them go. From now on it won’t be easy to catch up anymore. We have not seen them for a while and somehow you always think that you can catch up at one point anyway. And then things change, people move. Although it will never be the same again, there will always be a connection. A connection that we all will keep in our heart.

I would have loved to say goodbye in person. Unfortunately it’s one of the days where things don’t go according to plan. Not much you can do when one of your kids suddenly gets sick… So I sit here while my husband went to the farewell party and think back to last year.

I can’t believe that it’s already a year actually. Somehow I still think we can simply call and schedule a catch up. Maybe because we are still in touch, still care for each other. The door that kind of closes will always remain slightly open, if you let it…

Blast From The Past – No Need For Fake Friends

A post on a blog that I just only discovered made me think about friendship, distance and value of friends. Although the post on Nirvanamamablog is more about friendships and distance it made me think about the value of true friends more than about keeping up friendships over a huge distance. I believe that true friendships last no matter of the circumstances and that if you have a true connection 22hours plane ride and up to 10 hour time difference won’t break it.

Those are the friends you can not see for months but when you get together you pick up where you left it immediately. Those are the friends who understand you, no words needed. Those are the friends you can build on and trust. I have shared my thoughts about the value of true friends before. Over time you will encounter fake friends. I think it’s just something that belongs to life and maturing. It’s a lesson we all have to learn. The one thing that matters is to accept that not everyone is meant to stay. It’s learning to let go of the ones that are not worth hanging on to and not to shed a tear for. If a fake friend disappears it’s never a loss. In the contrary! You will only gain from it.

I hope you enjoy this Blast From The Past about fake friends and what I think of them (also inspired by the Daily Post Daily Prompt – Learning)…
