Blast From The Past – Money vs Happiness

There are weeks where the potential lottery win is incredibly high. So high that I often wonder if you’d ever be able to spend all the money or if you would live a life without any financial worries… or if you’d actually manage to burn through it… It has happened. People manage to spend all of their incredible win. Amounts you’d think would last for generations. So while I’m wondering about the sum that one lucky winner might take home next and what they’d do with it, I remembered this post I’d like to share with you today as a Blast From The Past…

Tell Me Something Good #125

Hello everyone, how are you all? How was your weekend and are you ready for a fantastic week? I sure am! I don’t really know what it is but I feel super energized. Maybe it’s the wonderful weather we currently have. Who knows. But let’s all get some spring in our steps. Let’s kick off the week on a positive note:

It’s easy:

• Mention something that you consider being good in the comments

• Or write a post about it on your blog (please don’t forget the pingback if you do so I don’t miss out and also share the link to it in the comments below). Something good that happened to you recently, or something good you will experience in a little while, or something good you know will happen soon. Something that makes you feel good.

• Share this post and invite your followers as well.

You know it by now! We are not moving any further without a little happy dance. It really doesn’t matter which style of dancing you like. Just do it. Just dance! Enjoy yourself 🙂

Common, let’s dance! Let’s loosen up and get a bit funky…  I’m sure you can do it. Nobody is watching… Feel the beat and move to the rhythm. And once you are done… you do another round because it will make you feel so much better… Done? Are you sure? Oh well then… here is what I’d like to share with you today:

“We had the most wonderful spring day today. There was a lot to do for me today but I took some time out and had a little break outside in the sun, soaking it all up and feeling wonderful. Funny what spring can do, don’t you think? Just the sun and the good weather. And maybe some good little conversations I had today too. Do you sometimes have days where you just feel ‘light’ and happy? Without any particular reason? I sure hope you do because I think days like this are the most amazing days ever…”

Are You Happy?

I think that’s so true. Maybe asking someone if they’re happy almost feels like a too personal kind of question? It feels like people would think you’re going too far as saying that you are happy or not is very personal…

But because today is today I just give it a shot: Are you happy?

Monday is the beginning of a beautiful week. To be honest though, every day is the beginning of something new, of something beautiful. We just have to see it. The last couple of days were interesting. Busy and good on one hand side. Challenging on the other. I will get to this later in another post. This one is all about good things. I find it incredibly important to keep the good things in mind and to focus on them. So let’s do this. Let’s focus on the good thing and hit this week off on a positive note.

Before I share my good thing, I’d like to do a little happy dance. Yes, again. But I love my little happy dances. They make me feel good. So let’s do it…

Shall we do another round? Of course… let’s keep doing it. You can keep going on and on… and when you feel like you are done, then here we go, here is what I’d like to share with you today:

“Today I’m just so happy that we all are happy and healthy and content with our lives. Doesn’t seem like a huge and catching thing, but it’s just so important. It’s so important. Because it’s not a given. We always take it as a given but it’s not. So many things we take for granted are not. Our healthy and happy kids, the love we feel for our partners, our family. The friends we have, that are there for us and support us. Happiness. It’s not a given. Today I’m extremely thankful for having all of this in my life. Health, happiness, love, friendships, trust and happiness…”

We are all awesome in our own unique way. It doesn’t really matter what other people think, you know. All that matters is what they ones that really care of your think. And if you’d ask them, they would tell you that you are awesome. So take this on board. Believe in it. Believe that you are awesome!

So let’s do this. Let’s kick off this week with a positive thought. By sharing something good, something that made you happy or you are looking forward to .

Before I share my good thing how about we cheer ourselves on a little bit? Is that all? No way! Common, I know you got more of this in you! Cheer for yourself! Because you deserve it! And another round! And another one! Doesn’t that make you feel good?

I think we have one more round of cheering in ourselves. Just one more. And when you are done, here is what I’m going to share with you today:

“I enjoyed a couple of beautiful walks last week along the beach. It helps me reconnect with myself, with nature but also with my dad who has passed away 15 months ago. It was so beautiful to smell the ocean, to feel the sand under my feet, listen to the tiny little waves splashing. And just being myself. And when I then on one of the days got to see the seal taking a break on the beach from it’s journey my day was perfect. It’s not something that is normal around here. So it was a special gift. Something I truly appreciated.”

Blast From The Past – Be The Change

Now that the end of the year is getting closer we tend to ponder about things that are important to us. About what might be behind the still closed door of 2017 that are about to be opened. We look back on the time passed, we make plans, we hang on to memories.

I do this in regards to my life but also in regards to my blog. Don’t worry, this will not be a review of my blogging year. I’m just not ready to do that yet. It’s more of a review of my approach to blogging. It’s about looking at it in retrospective and making a decision about how to continue.

My approach to blogging has always been a positive one. There have been rants, as you all know. There have been posts that were triggered by something sad. But in general I try to keep a positive spin to my posts. I do this for a very clear reason: I want to always see the positive. And I kind of would like you to do the same. It just makes life easier. I know that certain things simply can’t be changed, no matter how positive our approach is.

It’s not that I think positive thinking can actually move mountains, you know. But it will for sure make the climb up easier. In a way it feels like carrying a backpack along. The more negativity you allow to take over the more it will weigh you down. If you change your way of thinking to a more positive way you will actually feel lighter. At least I do.

That’s what I like to achieve. I like to give you a little bit of lightness. I hope I was able to achieve it with my posts in 2016 and I will for sure aim to do it in 2017.

I want to be that little change. Just like I’ve said already a couple of months back as you can read in this Blast From The Past.

Share Your World – 2016: Week 49

We are yet again one week closer to Christmas. It’s Tuesday over here in Australia again and that means it’s time for Cee’s Share Your World Challenge. Every week Cee comes up with some really fun questions to answer. If you have not discovered the Share Your World Challenge yet, you should check it out.

What do you value most in a friendship?
Definitely honesty. I think that’s what a great friendship needs. You need to know that when you ask something you get an honest answer. You need to know that if you are totally off track your friend will let you know. You need to know that if someone is screwing with you your friend would tell you. It’s about trust and honesty is the basis for trust.

Right before I got married I was told by someone close to me that one of my best friends had said something about the reason I get married. The person that told me was so close to me that I didn’t bother asking my friend about it in that moment but decided to choose another one of my friends to be the one person signing the paperwork with us. I didn’t tell her until close to the date when she asked me about when she needed to be there. I told her that I’d chosen someone else. She was really disappointed and asked me what made me decide that way. I told her about what I was told. Needless to say that she never said anything like this and that it was simply a made up story by someone I realized later was toxic in my life.

I learned a lot in that moment. Not only that a good friendship can actually overcome something like this but also that you should never simply believe something that is said about a close friend of yours but ask instead of assuming. I got into a similar situation again a while after getting married but I had learned my lesson and I approached the person “in question”. I think that if you are friends for long enough and close enough you also know if told the truth by your friend or not.

A real friend is someone that sticks to you. No matter what. That’s another thing I value in a real friendship: Loyalty.

Real friends don’t simply walk out on you. They are there for you when you need them the most. They lift you up, when you are down. They listen to you and they also tell you to shut up and get your sh** together if needed. They don’t drop you like a hot potato when things turn out to be different than everyone has expected them to be.

It doesn’t mean that you need to see or chat with each other on a regular base. The connection with a real friend will definitely be deep enough to remain, even if you are miles away.

I’m lucky enough to have friends like this in my life. True friends.

I’m also lucky enough that my life filtered them out. That the wrong ones left or got highlighted and I got the chance to walk away from them. There is truly no need for fake friends. They only drag you down.

Do you prefer eating the frosting of the cake or the cupcake first?  Do you prefer a specific flavor?
I usually make a sandwich with it…

Have you ever been in a submarine?  If you haven’t, would you want to?
Yes. We’ve done the submarine tour in different places to see the amazing under water world. I believe the first one was in a mini one when I visited the Great Barrier Reef for the first time. It was really tiny and attached to a platform out on the reef. I hoped on it either after snorkeling or right before… I don’t remember anymore. But it was amazing.

The second time was in the Caribbean  a few years ago. It was amazing and a fun thing to do with the kids and then we did another one as a family in Hawaii a few years back.

As much fun as it is to do one of those tours, it’s also making me realize that I would never ever want to have to work on one. I’m not claustrophobic but I believe I would actually go nuts if I would work on one and be down there constantly, knowing about all the water that is around me and above me.

I love being in the water and I would love to be able to stay down there for a long time. But out in the water and not in a torpedo shaped thingy, depending on the quality of how it’s built and everyone else that is down with me…

If 100 people your age were chosen at random, how many do you think you’d find leading a more satisfying life than yours?
I’m very happy with my life. There are bumps in my road of course but I tend to look at everything in a positive way. I know that some people are wired differently. I doubt that I would see any of the 100 people actually living a more satisfying life than I do. Not because they might not live a “better” life on paper but simply because I wouldn’t see it that way.

I believe strongly in being in charge of your own happiness.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
I’m incredibly thankful for my family and for my friends. I’m thankful for our new neighbors who seem to like decorating their houses for Christmas just as much as we do. It just makes such a difference. And I’m thankful for the nice weather we have at the moment and for the fantastic opportunities that were sent my way recently…
