It’s Been A While

Wow… it’s been a while since I was here. I actually can’t believe it how long I ignored my blog. I guess I just needed the break. For those of you who are my Facebook buddies in real life, you know that I still have my “special” life and thoughts. I just simply didn’t sit down and share it on the blog.

First of all: How are you all doing? I can’t believe you are still following me and reading this! Thank you for that!

So what did this momma do instead of blogging? Well here it is:

Tell Me Something Good #128

Happy Monday to you. We are way on the way towards summer and spring has definitely sprung down here in Australia. I tell you: I’m so ready for warm and sunny weather. Apparently this week will serve us more or less everything. From nice spring weather (like just now) to really chilly and almost winter-y weather later on. But that’s Melbourne. Always a trick up its sleeve.

So let’s start this week on a positive.

It’s easy:

• Mention something that you consider being good in the comments

• Or write a post about it on your blog (please don’t forget the pingback if you do so I don’t miss out and also share the link to it in the comments below). Something good that happened to you recently, or something good you will experience in a little while, or something good you know will happen soon. Something that makes you feel good.

• Share this post and invite your followers as well.

You know it by now! We are not moving any further without a little happy dance. It really doesn’t matter which style of dancing you like. Just do it. Just dance! Enjoy yourself 🙂

Shake it! Have some fun. And when you think you are done, why not adding one more round of shimmy to the day?

Are you sure you are done? Well then here is what I’d like to share with you today:

“My daughter’s passion and commitment for the things she does are amazing. I love watching her play soccer or dance. Or doing her martial art. What she takes on she does properly, always putting her best effort forward. Yesterday they she had her annual dance show. Something they work towards to for months. It’s the highlight of the year and as one girl said ‘once it’s here it’s over in now time’. It was amazing to watch them all dance. Most of all of course my daughter. Every year everyone is looking forward to the costume reveal and most of the time you are blown away by the beautiful creations. Sometimes though you pick the short straw and end up with a costume that is not really that nice. It happens. And this year one of hers was probably the worst of all of them (as most parents agreed). She hated it. She was disappointed. She wondered how someone can possibly choose something like this. Yet she was up there, on stage, rocking that costume, giving her all, smiling and performing. And she looked stunning.

Sometimes we get handed a short straw. We can go into hiding and give into the frustration or we can do what my girl did, put a smile on our face, accept that we can’t change it and just run with it (or in her case dance). Needless to say, that I’m a super proud mom (as always)…”

It just dawned to me that this challenge is running for 2 years now and I remember the night I was in my car driving home after a meeting and listening to the radio. It was the program on there that inspired me for this challenge. They asked people to call and let them know what kind of good thing they were looking forward to or experienced and share with their listeners. I just loved the idea obviously. I’m glad it’s going and I love reading what you all are happy about or looking forward to. Sometimes it’s in the little things, you know… sometimes it’s something big that makes us smile. Whatever it is: Cherish it!

But let’s not waste anymore time (as it’s already Tuesday once again here) and let’s kick off this week on a positive note.

So shake those hips and whatever else you need to shake and dance with a lot of sass…

What do you mean you’re done? No, no, no… I know you have much more in you… So keep going. I promise it makes you feel good, diapers or no diapers… 😉 And once you are done, here is what I’d like to share with you today:

“I was busy organizing a soccer event over the last weeks and Sunday was meant to be that amazing day for hundreds of girls. It was meant to be that wow moment and peak of the season for them. The day they would remember for years. So much work going into it making sure everything goes to plan. But there is one thing you can never control in regards to an outdoor event: The weather…

So when I woke up due to a loud thunder at 2.30am I didn’t manage to fall asleep anymore, listening to the rain and hail and wind. I checked the time, saw the minutes and hours tick away. I knew the grounds would be super wet but I was confident they would be fine for the girls to play on. I knew we would only suspend all the games if there was lightning. But I couldn’t stop thinking of all the 7-11 year olds out there in the cold (temperatures were announced to drop to 6C…), windy and wet conditions from 9am till 4.30pm. I thought about the chances of hail. I thought of my daughter and her team out there but also about all the other girls.

When I arrived at the grounds as the first one to be there besides the lady running the cafeteria, fighting the wind while making my way to my office for the day, I felt incredibly frustrated. I was sad that the day would not turn out to be what I wanted it to be for the girls. I was sad that they would most likely walk away from it with a ‘it was the worst day ever’ experience. And when we kicked off and I watched them fight their opponents, the wind and rain I was actually super close to tears. But then the weather started changing. The sun came out (it was still super cold but at least dry and sunny) and I heard the giggles, I saw the smiles and then I heard that one remark: “You will always remember this day as the day you played a tournament in the worst possible conditions but you played and you had fun and you didn’t let it get to you.”

In this very moment I felt it. I felt incredibly proud of all the girls out there. Not only my daughter or her team, not only the girls in our club’s the teams but every single girl out there. Their passion, their commitment, their team spirit. Not caving in. Not giving up. Not leaving. Not heading home. But staying. Playing. Facing the elements. Going home in the evening, feeling tired but proud. And most likely with the knowledge that they are not princesses, unable to withstand tough situations. In the contrary: They are mighty, they are tough. No give-up attitude. And I realized that this day, with the most awful weather might have been the one day that they will always think back to and say: “If I was able to do this, I can do anything…”

Image result for monday the only day you can wear the same

I don’t really understand why people struggle with Mondays. I mean, there is so much positive to say about Monday. It’s a day you are alive. It’s a day you can change what you want or need to change in your life. It’s a day where you can wear what you were wearing the day before and nobody would notice (well, besides your children…). And it’s always the beginning of a new week. So let’s do this. Let’s start this week with lots of positivity.

It’s easy:

• Mention something that you consider being good in the comments

• Or write a post about it on your blog (please don’t forget the pingback if you do so I don’t miss out and also share the link to it in the comments below). Let’s dance. Move it. Enjoy it… and once you are done, here is what I’d like to share with you today:

“I love to watch my daughter when she plays soccer. She has such a love for the game. And yesterday she not only did some fantastic safes while in the goal but she also scored a great goal while in attack. The girls did so well and it’s just so great to see the fun they have, the grit, the determination and the passion.”

Unlikely

Snake

If you would have asked me 20 years ago if I would let my child play with a python I would have looked at you with that look of “are you nuts”. I would not only have said it’s very unlikely but most definitely told you that I would never let my child sit on the floor with a huge python moving around him…

And yet I’ve done it. Multiple times. Because he loves reptiles. They are his passion and by now we have 6 lizards living in our home and some of them will end up being massive. Do we have a snake? Nope! I tell you right now that it’s super unlikely that we will get one. Impossible? Who knows… Unlikely? Oh definitely!!!

So let’s do this. Let’s cha-cha!

Let’s kick off this week on a positive note. By sharing something good, something that made you happy or you are looking forward to .

Before I share my positive thing with you today how about cha-cha-cha? Forward and backwards, and forward and back. Over and over. Having fun, enjoying the rhythm. Are you having fun? Do you still think it’s such a bad thing this forward and backward thing? It’s all about what you make of it, isn’t it. So dance 😉

And when you are done, here is what I’d like to share with you today:

“I find it an amazing thing to see passion in someone. The way they speak about the things they are passionate about, the way they approach them. How it becomes part of them. My son has this massive passion for animals, specifically reptiles. While sometimes it almost gets a bit much for me to listen to all he knows about them, I watched him explain things to a friend of ours today and answer all her questions. When he walked off she told me how impressed she was not only about what he knew but also the way he explained it and the passion in his eyes and words. I tell you, it was one very proud mommy moment :-)”

Get A Real Job!

Have you heard that sentence before? Have you heard someone saying “get a real job”? I’ve heard people say this. To strangers, to their kids, to their family members or to friends. Maybe even to themselves. Get a real job… I always wonder what people mean by that. What is a real job?

Blast From The Past – Stuck In The Moment

Sometimes some things just take over your life and before you realize it another day has passed by and you really don’t know how you got from the morning to the evening, from Monday to Sunday again. You might even feel like a hamster in the wheel and exhaustion kicks in. No wonder that passion sometimes is lost somewhere between Monday and Sunday and hard to find again. How would you possibly be up for a passionate night with your spouse, even though you want to be close and are still madly in love? Exhaustion just takes over and sometimes all you want to do is get into that bed rest your head on the pillow, pull that blanket up and sleep… sleep… sleep…

I bet I’m not the only parent facing moments like this… or am I? I think when you reach the point where life is no longer only about you but suddenly mainly about your family you need to put a little bit more effort into keeping the passion alive. Here’s a post I wrote a couple of months ago. Maybe it makes you want to dance too 😉

Don’t Settle

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. – Steve Jobs
