Beach

Recently I read a post about how living near the sea can approve your mental health. In it it describes how scientists found out that living near green space has not the same impact as living near the sea does. In short: It might be that the green space consists of man made areas as well while the blue space is all natural.

Frankly, I don’t care what the reason behind it actually is. What I do know though is, that being close to the ocean has a massive impact on me. Watching the ocean always makes me feel good, no matter if the water looks like a mirror or if the waves are high and pushed in by Gale force winds. I’m not sure if it’s the water itself or the idea of this immense wide open space that lies in front of you. I’m not sure if it’s the power of the ocean, the mystery it holds or the beauty of the different shades of blue.

I know that being close to the sea makes my mind wander. Feeling the sand under my feet makes me connect. The ocean simply relaxes me and at the same time feeds me with an abundance of energy. And it makes me dream

  1. It makes me dream too. This is beautiful. I feel the same way as you do. Nothing beats being by the ocean in any season, it’s totally invigorating and utterly calming. 🙂

  2. I understand this one. There is a certain power, almost an electricity, in the air around the ocean. Just my favorite place to be, to create, to be inspired. Some day, I hope to live there. ☺

    • Thanks… We lived in an apartment overlooking the ocean the first couple of years after our move to Australia. As much as I enjoy being in a house, I miss the view!

  3. This post really made me think. I also feel relaxed and in awe of the beauty and seemingly infinite power of the ocean. But I don’t know how much of that is, for me, being on vacation. As opposed to living by the ocean. Which I can’t afford. But I am equally relaxed and renewed in forests and mountains. And amazed by the sheer beauty of nature in this setting. Is that also just being on vacation which adds the benefit of being relaxed by definition? Interesting post.

    • Totally see what you are saying… I’m fortunate enough to live close to the ocean and yet every time I head to the beach it feels like I’m on vacation. Maybe it’s triggered by the fact that we used to spend our holidays on the beach when I was a child…

  4. I lived the majority of first 50 years of my life in coastal locations. I agree that the air near there feels different, perhaps due to the gentle winds that blew from there. I didn’t often feel wild winds, probably because I didn’t live right next to the ocean so by the time they reached us they felt more like natural air conditioning. During my time near the ocean’s side, I probably grew to take it for granted. Thinking about it now kind of makes me feel small in comparison.
Now I live near a mountain lake, which gives off the same cooling effect. The surrounding trees make me feel more secure and protected than the large endless ocean.
